SUMMER MOVIE PREVIEW: June...

So, over at /Film, they have decided to put together a few video blogs about this upcoming summer movie season. While I haven't had the luck of gaining video capabilities (no camera over here), I have the time to put together a post in a similar fashion. However, I do want to hear your opinions on these films. These are the 5 films I am most looking forward to, being released this upcoming June.

5. The Hangover (JUNE 5)

Brought to us by Todd Phillips, the same guy behind the hit comedy, Old School (the last great role from Will Ferrel), this features one hell of a great cast. Zack Galifinakis, Ed Helms, and Bradley Cooper, this comedy is a story about three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then must retrace their steps in order to find him. While the premise is nothing new, one look at this amazing trailer, which features gag after gag after gag, all of which hit the spot. It's a comedy, so there is not much to say about it, but all that matters is that the jokes need to be there, and this trailer has me convinced that they will be, in spades.

4. Moon (JUNE 12)

(NO TRAILER HAS BEEN SHOWN YET)

CORRECTION, a new one has JUST been released...

First feature from director Duncan Jones, this film starring Sam Rockwell, tells the story of Astronaut Sam Bell. He has a rather personal encounter near the end of his stint on the Moon, where working alongside his computer, he sends back parcels to Earth. Not much is known about this film outside of it's showing at Sundance, but the cast is great, and early reviews have been over the moon. Not really one that will be widely released, this one will be one that everyone will have to hunt down to check out. And everyone should.

3. Away We Go (JUNE 5)

So, it looks like Mr. Kate Winslet, Sam Mendes, did a little work after he shot Revolutionary Road. This is one of the most surprising trailers I've come across, as I don't know a single person who expected it to come out. The film stars John Krasinski, Maya Rudolph, and Maggie Gyllenhaal and is about a couple who are expecting their first child, who travel around the U.S. in order to find a perfect place to start their family. Many people have called this trailer cliche, and often times pretentious, but for me, it hit every ball thrown at it. From the look of it, to the great choice of music, to the cast, to the main thing putting this at number 3, Sam Mendes. I will see EVERYTHING that man does. So should you.

2. The Hurt Locker (JUNE 26)

One thing that bugs me more than any in the world of film is War films, ESPECIALLY Iraq War based films. However, one of these films lands at my number 2 spot. Coming to us from Katherine Bigalow (yes, the girl who brough us Point Break), it tells the story of an elite Armby bomb squad, that must come together in a city where everyone is a potential enemy and every object could be a deadly bomb. This is another small little indie film that, while not one that is going to be easily hunted down, should be seen by everyone. Featuring a cast including Guy Pierce and Jeremy Renner, this may be the most interesting film to come out this month, and one that, as with all of these, should be seen by everyone. Don't come running to me, telling me how great the film is when it comes Oscar time. I'll already be singing this films praises.

1. Transformers 2: Revenge of The Fallen (JUNE 24)

Yeah, the first Transformers film was not very good. However, more robots, bigger Michael Bay-splosions, and a darker look, all make this the only big blockbuster film of the month. Sure, there won't be much of anything to really dig into here, but I can't wait to feel like an 8 year old kid when I check this film out. Plus, has there EVER been a director to make a film more suited for his style? Bay was born with this film as his ultimate creation. Fine, it may suck. I know that. And while it may get my first spot on a default (I hate war films THAT much), but honestly, this looks great, and I can't wait.

Come back on Monday for 5 films to see in July...

Go see somehting good!
