NEWS: Ellen Page, Sean Tillman and Alia Shawkat To Pen HBO Series...
This morning, even through a HUGE freezing of Twitter due to some much talked about business, we are getting at least one particularly interesting news story.
It appears as though Ellen Page, Alia Shawkat (Maeby Fünke from "Arrested Development") and musician Har Mar Superstar (Sean Tillman) are writing a single-camera series for HBO called, "Stitch N' Bitch." The triptec will also serve as the shows executive producers, which will follow a pair of hipster girls as they move from Williamsburg, New York to Silverlake, Los Angeles to make it as artists.
The two actresses in question are also considering starring in this project, but nothing is really in the works to any extent yet.
I love Ellen Page, so this project is definitely getting the benefit of the doubt from this guy, but this just sounds beyond painfully cliche and really dull. /Film actually sums up my thoughts better than I ever could:
I’ll give this one the benefit of the doubt until given some reason not to. I like Page, love Shawkat and, despite the fact that the lead characters are hipsters, always so easy to hate, this is a comedy. More than likely, there’s a lot of good poking fun at rootless, foolish trust-fund kids in store. I’m mentally conjuring up an image of a show kind of like Absolutely Fabulous or (dare I say it?) The Young Ones, both of which were able to lampoon extreme or sub-cultural characters without actually treating them poorly.
The only question that I have for this project is how much will this crew actually write? Will they do a Joss Whedon and while not writing all the episodes, have a hands on approach to the project, or something like The United States of Tara, where Diablo Cody wrote the series, but episodes were handed off to a group of writers who weren't the former stripper. If they pull a Whedon, than this is going to be something I'm interested in, however, if they are more producers than writers, than it may just be a pit too painful.
What do YOU think?
Go see something good!
