One of my favorite directors, Takashi Miike, has finally found the funding and gotten the support from producers, allowing him to finally getting his much anticipated samurai film Thirteen Assassins, off of the ground.
Based on the 1963 film of the same name, this film follows 13 different assassins that come together for a suicide mission to take the life of an evil lord.
With films like Dead Or Alive, Ichi The Killer, the original One Missed Call, Sukiyaki Western Django, and my personal favorite (and one of the best horror films ever madd) Audition, Miike is easily one of my favorite directors.
The film is set to be produced by Jeremy Thomas and Toshiaki Nakazawa. Nakazawa produced this year's foreign language film Oscar winner Departures, and Thomas produced Bernardo Bertolucci's The Last Emperor, which also won Best Picture.
This director/producer group, along with what sounds like a great story makes this one of my most anticipated films for the next few years. It will be interesting to see when we get to see it state wide. What do YOU think?
Thanks to FirstShowing for the heads up!
Go see something good!
