TRAILER: Gamer...

Recently, the first poster for the newest film from Crank creators Neveldine/Taylor was released, and while that wasn't really anything to special, this trailer maybe is. I love the duo, and anything they are working on will get me excited, and while there are a few things that bug me about this trailer, particularly Ludacris being in the cast, I think that it looks pretty cool. It stars Gerard Butler and Michael C. Hall, two actors I really like a lot, and the premise (which will can be read after below the video), is also really interesting. Check it out below!

Gamer is a high-concept action thriller set in the near future, a time when mind-control technology has taken society by storm. Humans control other humans in a mass-scale, multiplayer online game. Reclusive billionaire Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall) has created the controversial form of entertainment, “Slayers,” a hugely popular game that allows millions to act out their innermost fantasies and desires - online - in front of a global audience. Gaming has evolved into a terrifying new dimension… mind control… mind manipulation… people playing people!

What do you think? Is this a film you are looking forward to?

POSTER: Gamer...

Today has been a pretty busy news day, and it's only 11:30! That said, all of the news has been pretty small in scale, but I still think it's all worth noting.

The biggest news, at least for me, is the release of the new poster for the Neveldine/Taylor film, Gamer. Check it out below!

The real poster is actually an interactive poster, which can be seen here, at Ugo.

Gamer is set in a future-world where humans can control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online gaming environments, a star player named Kable (Gerard Butler) from a game called "Slayers" looks to regain his freedom and escape the prison while taking down the game's twisted mastermind (Michael C. Hall).

Gamer is both written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the two crazy filmmakers behind Crank and Crank: High Voltage. This was produced by Lakeshore Entertainment and is being distributed by Lionsgate. Game is tentatively set for release via Lionsgate on September 4th this year.

Early test screenings have returned with lackluster results, but the film is still in editing, and won't be released until September, so I'm not to worried. Where as their last film, Crank: High Voltage, was shot on prosumer style cameras, this film will be one of the first, if not the very first, film to use the new Red 1 camera.

The duo has always tried to push the envelope when it comes to not only content, but tech, and this is why I will always give them the benefit of the doubt. Still, I can't make a good decision on the quality of the film until I see a full lenth trailer. I saw the leaked Italian trailer, and that looked just like what I expected. Crazy, over the top action, with more than a handful of explosions, in the gurillea style that Neveldine/Taylor are known for.

What do you think about this film?

TRAILER: Game Italian Trailer...

So, along with Where The Wild Things Are, another new trailer has been released, albeit in Italian. It's the first trailer for Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the duo who brought us Crank and now Crank 2, and their new film, Game. It stars Gerard Butler and looks like one hell of a crazy action film. It is also technically interesting, as it is shot on the new Red Camera, a new digital style camera, that allows for a really interesting visual style. Check out the trailer below!

Here is the basic premise...

The story takes place “in the not too distant future.” Kabel (Gerard Butler), a death row inmate, has unwittingly become a pop culture hero. Every week, millions worldwide tune in online to watch him and hundreds of other convicts battle in Slayers, an ultra-violent multi-player online game invented by technological genius Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall). To the wealthy young gamer who controls his every move, Kable is just a sim (simulation) character. To the resistance group that opposes Castle’s games as high-tech slavery, he is a critical element in their battle to take down the inventor. Caught in the crosshairs of two opposing forces and under the command of a teenager’s remote device, Kable must use his extraordinary fighting skills to escape the game, bring down Castle and overthrow the system.

NEWS: Free Documentary, The Avengers, and Jonah Hex...

Hey guys! I've had a busy day today, so I apologize for the late post. However, there is a bit of news, so here are your headlines..

- It looks like Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the hilarious guys behind Crank, have found a lead for the film that will follow up Crank 2 and the upcoming Gerard Butler film, Game, and it would be Josh Brolin. Reports have it that Brolin has been tapped to play Jonah Hex in the adaptation of the grimey western comic book of the same name...
- It looks as though the powers that be behind the Oscars will now be allowing Oscar exclusive film trailers during the broadcast....thoughts????
- I have the great pleasure of bringing you a really solid documentary, available for free download, from the senior editor of The Movie Blog, John Campea, and it's called, Prince of Peace;God of War...here's a synopsis...

How did the command to “Love Your Enemies” get so complicated? This was the question I had for years both when I was a minister in the church and ever since I left it. It seemed to me the religious right, more a political force than anything else, who embraced policies of violence, killing and destruction, all in the name of a God they claimed to follow seemed to be at odds with the teachings of the founder of their faith.

For the first three centuries that the church existed, those belonging to the faith of Christianity understood the words and example of Jesus to be a clear directive to never be involved with violence. To be a Christian was to be a Pacifist, and during those formative years the church endured several persecutions at the hands of the Roman Empire itself without ever considering taking up the sword against their aggressors.

How did this faith, known and identified for its non-violent beliefs, go on to conduct the crusades, the inquisitions, witch hunts, and today have 87% of white evangelical Christians support President George W. Bush’s decision to go to war with Iraq? How did this religion, founded by a Pacifist and known (even criticized) for non-violence, become a religion known for its aggression, war, political power and embracing of violence?

So, in 2006 I decided to travel across North America and talk to scholars, historians, authors and religious leaders on both sides of the issue (not the cheap Bill Maher tactics of only talking to crazy people on whichever side he stands opposed to) to understand why some believe the Christian faith allows for killing and others in the exact same faith believe that to truly follow the faith, one must never take life. The result was this project “Prince of Peace - God of War”

The project took me just over a year to complete and was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life, but at the same time one of the most rewarding. As a documentary I am very proud of how the issues are addressed and explored… but at the same time I am very humbled by how much it lacks artistic quality. A gifted documentary filmmaker I am not. But audiences across North America at various film festivals seems to quickly look past my artistic shortcomings and submerged themselves in the issues and discussion in the film. Some agreeing, some disagreeing, but all apparently talking.

This is a really solid documentary, and one you should check out. Download it here, or check it out below...

- It looks as though Forrest Whitaker will be both starring in and directing A Wonderful World, a biopic on legendary musician, Louis Armstrong...
- Rumor has it that great actor, Ryan Gosling, has scored the role of Hal Jordan a.k.a. The Green Lantern...
- A new Avengers cartoon television show will be hiting the airwaves in early 2011, just in time for the films release...
- Finally, Frank Darabont, helmer behind last years underrated film, The Mist, just got a cast boost as Jamie Foxx has signed on to star alongside Gerard Butler in Law Abiding Citizen...
