TOP 10: Dystopian/Future Movies...

So, this week see's not only the release of the dystopian animated epic, 9, but it also sees the end of modern comedy, with the release of ANOTHER Tyler Perry turd. However, instead of dwelling on that fact, and the fact that 9 is getting less mixed to positive reviews, how about I bring back an old classic. I haven't done a top 10 that isn't 2009 related in what seems to be months, so I think it's about time. Here are the 10 greatest films relating to a dystopian future.

10. Dark City/Ghost In The Shell (See THESE to see where The Matrix came from)
9. Battle Royale
8. 12 Monkeys/ La Jetee
7. Children of Men
6. Brazil
5. Delicatessen
4. Alphaville
3. Blade Runner
2. Metropolis
1. A Clockwork Orange

POSTERS: Entire Character Poster Set For 9...

Early this week, a special character poster for Shane Acker's upcoming animated feature, 9, was released, starring, you guessed it, the doll simply named 9. Well, after that hit the web running, it wouldn't take long for the studio to shell out the other 7 posters (2 characters share a poster), all of which are stunning works. All of these posters fit the style and feel of the film perfectly, and below you can see my personal favorite. Tell me you wouldn't want that hanging up in your room! The other's can be seen by clicking the link after the poster.

9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which our very humanity is threatened. A group of rag dolls living a post-apocalyptic existence find one of their own, 9, who may be the key to their survival.

9 is both written and directed by visionary filmmaker Shane Acker, of two previous animated shorts The Hangnail and The Astounding Talents of Mr. Grenade. The screenplay was co-written by Acker and Pamela Pettler (Corpse Bride, Monster House). 9 was first an animated short that debuted in 2005 and received an Oscar nomination. Focus Features will be debuting 9 in theaters everywhere starting on September 9th.

POSTER: Stunning New 9 Poster...

So there are few films that I get really excited for in a given year. This year you have 500 Days of Summer, Public Enemies, Where The Wild Things Are, and Moon, just to name a few. Well, a film that is looking to make its way into that list, if it's not already there, is the animated film, 9.

With a superb cast (icluding my girl Jennifer Connelly), great pedigree (produced by Tim Burton, blah, and Timur Bekmambatov, awesome), and some really awesome trailers, this film is looking to be one of the better animated films of this year. It comes to us from Shane Acker, whose short film of the same name, which was Oscar nominated, brings us this tale of 9 dolls who attempt to save humanity. Well, to add to that list of awesome promotional material, you can add this amazing new poster. It's the first official poster from Focus Features, the company behind the film, and the design is stunning. It's gorgeous, and the style of the poster (and the film itself), along with the newly announced PG-13 rating really has me excited. Check it out below!

TRAILER: 9...

One of the reasons I love being home, outside of seeing the family, is that I get access to my favorite TV channel, G4.

Yesturday, during G4's amazing show, Attack of The Show, they aired the newest trailer for Shane Ackers utterly beautiful dystopian future animated film, 9.

The new trailer not only feautres a few new shots, but it also features a look at each of the 9 dolls that will be at the head of this film, with my favorites being 3 and 4, a pair of twins. It will be interesting to not only see the interactions between these characters, but since they were all given life by a singular scientist, it will be interesting to see what differences each character will have in their actions, emotions, and personality.

Oh, and the film looks beyond gorgeous too. Check the trailer out below!

“When 9 (Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.”

Based on Acker's Oscar nominated short film of the same name, the film not only features a dark and unique art style, that sort of mixes the sensibilities of older Tim Burton, just amped to 11, and the characters from LittleBigPlanet. This is one I've been looking forward to for a while, and can't wait to check it out when it hits theatres on 9.9.09.
