VIDEO: Where The Wild Things Are Soundtrack Behind The Scenes...

Yeah, this is a short video, but really, any excuse I have to put Karen O up on this tiny little blog, is good cause for yours truly. Here's the scoop, straight from The Playlist:

In case your memory is short, O's musical collaborators on the soundtrack (who she dubbed collectively as Karen O & The Kids) which she wrote and orchestrated (though there is a separate score for the film as well done by Carter Burwell) is an eclectic mass of indie rockers — members of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Jonze's brother, producer Squeak-E Clean, Bradford Cox of Deerhunter, Yeah Yeah Yeahs/Folk Implosion collaborator Imaad Wasif and Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs and Dead Weather, Dean Fertita (member of Queens of the Stone Age, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs), Liars' guitarist Aaron Hemphill, the Bird and the Bee's Greg Kurstin, Services' Tristan Bechet, and Gris Gris's Oscar Michel, plus a an untrained children's choir.

I've had a chance to actually listen to this soundtrack (never won a copy like I did the Whip It soundtrack. Where you at Playlist?), and I must say, this is one that all must pick up. It's currently out on shelves, and this is a really stunning collection of artists and the outcome is beyond that. It's a really superb soundtrack, and I hope you all enjoy this awesome, albeit short, little behind the scenes video.

NEWS: New Moon Soundtrack Is Bound To Be Better Than The Film...

So, here's the sad truth. Actually, a few sad truths:

- I saw Twilight, and enjoyed it, even with its flaws. Not a good film at all, but entertaining. Vampires who are also diamond are fun to make jokes about. Good times all around.

- The films soundtrack is one that will go down as one of my favorites from last year.

- The second film is bound to be better than the first, based solely on the first full length trailer

- Finally, the second film's soundtrack is set to be HUGE. Here's why.

According to The Playlist, the New Moon soundtrack, due out October 20th, will feature tracks from wannabe-hipster-yet-also-fan-of-Jonas-Brothers (yeah, I'm looking at you twitards) such as The Killers and Deathcab For Cutie, to truly brilliant artists like Muse, Bon Iver, Radiohead (Thom Yourke to be exact), and Grizzly Bear. Here's the full tracklisting.

"New Moon" soundtrack tracklist.
* DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE — MEET ME ON THE EQUINOX
* BAND OF SKULLS — FRIENDS
* THOM YORKE — HEARING DAMAGE
* LYKKE LI — POSSIBILITY
* THE KILLERS — A WHITE DEMON LOVE SONG
* ANYA MARINA — SATELLITE HEART
* MUSE — I BELONG TO YOU (NEW MOON)
* BON IVER & ST. VINCENT — ROSYLN
* BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB — DONE ALL WRONG
* HURRICANE BELLS — MONSTERS
* SEA WOLF — THE VIOLET HOUR
* OK GO — SHOOTING THE MOON
* GRIZZLY BEAR — SLOW LIFE
* EDITORS — NO SOUND BUT THE WIND
* ALEXANDRE DESPLAT — NEW MOON (THE MEADOW)

This is basically the soundtrack equivalent of those LSTN mixtapes released by UrbanOutfitters.com, just a lot less inspired. Sure, the soundtrack is amazing where it hits, but seriously, OK GO?

What are YOUR thoughts on this soundtrack?

TOP 10: Movie Soundtracks...

I think I may have already done this top 10, but if that is the case, it will be deleted. This weeks biggest piece of news so far, outside of the new Watchmen posters and news that a second trailer will be attached to Quantum of Solace this week, has been the rumors that Quentin Tarantino is in talks with legendary composer Ennio Morricone to get him to score his upcoming film, Inglorious Basterds. I have mixed emotions about this, but there is nothing mixed about my feelings towards Tarantino when it comes to creating soundtracks. There is none and have not been anyone better at doing it. So in honor of this news, I have compiled the ten best film soundtracks I've ever heard...

10. Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2
9. Once
8. Magnolia/Boogie Nights
7. Control/24 Hour Party People (Joy Division...'nuff said)
6. The Big Lebowski
5. The Graduate
4. Reservior Dogs/Death Proof
3. Do The Right Thing
2. Royal Tenenbaums/Bottle Rocket
1. Pulp Fiction
