NEWS: Eli Roth To Direct Baywatch 3-Double-D?

Alright, so the title of this post is a bit misleading. There is not really any news surrounding this post, and Eli Roth ISN'T directing a Baywatch feature. However, through a discussion with Hero Complex, an interesting little bit of dialouge was released from an interview with Complex and Roth, about the fact that, after Cabin Fever, he WAS going to helm a Baywatch feature. And you will never be able to guess who he was going to have pen the script. Here's the scoop:

"After 'Cabin Fever,' I had this meeting at CAA with my agents," Roth said. "They said, 'There's this project and this project, but what do you think about directing "Baywatch"?' And I was like, 'I want to do it! I'll cash in all my credibility!'"

"They said, 'There's no writer.' So I called up my friend Richard Kelly, the man who did a movie called 'Donnie Darko.' I was like, 'Rich, I have a great idea. It'll be ridiculous. We'll make it like a "Simpsons" episode, totally absurd.' And so we went and met with the producers who owned the rights. We said, 'You can say, "From the creators of 'Cabin Fever' and 'Donnie Darko' — 'Baywatch 3-Double-D'!"'"

So after Cabin Fever and this project was pitched and failed to get made, Eli Roth went on to make Hostel and Hostel 2, while Richard Kelly wrote Domino, and made Southland Tales and The Box. Just a few films from the people you would expect to hear would be behind a Baywatch film.

Honestly, here's the deal. Of the three different versions of a Baywatch film (Roth's, an action film, and a Stripes style comedy), the one I would actually see, would ONLY have been Eli Roth's version. I don't really appreciate Richard Kelly's films like most people I know (I AM quite interested in The Box however. At least based soley on the trailer and the Twilight Zone plot), however, this would have been by far the most interesting. Give Baywatch a much more adult feel with blood, gore, and nudity. It would be a vastly superior film to the other two ideas. Sure, Roth isn't the most phenomenal of directors, but I do quite like Hostel, and Cabin Fever is a welcome addition to the horror genre, in my humble opinion. Hostel 2 isn't the greatest of things, but honestly, I am quite the fan of his.

However, the film we WILL see is going to end up being the comedy, which is the most bland, so this will probably be the only thing you hear about it on this site. Interesting idea anywho.

NEWS: Eli Roth To Do A Cloverfield Scale Film?

Yes, but that's not what I'm excited about.

First, the main bit of information.

About a week ago, Eli Roth had an interview with MTV. During this interview, he let a few hints as to what his next project may be.

It’s going to be something that is really fun with lots of mass destruction. I wanted to do something along the lines of Transformers or Cloverfield that was a little more science fiction-based, and with lots of chaos and mass destruction.

Yes, that sounds kind of interesting, but a tad bit lame. I do like Roth, quite a bit, at least I liked two of his films, Cabin Fever and Hostel (Hostel isn't great, but it tries to say a few things, and it's more interesting than plain torture porn). However, it really hasn't been proven that he can take on a huge film of a Transformers size scale. While it does sound interesting, the next thing he talked about was the much discussed feature length version of his Grindhouse trailer, Thanksgiving.

The sickest, bloodiest, most violent slasher movie. I want to make the highest body count slasher film I can

THIS is what is getting me excited. Along with his big film, Roth will package in Thanksgiving for a mere 5 million dollars, making it a bloody 5 million dollar horror film, to be shot on 8mm. SHOT ON 8MM. This is a really interesting concept, and if there is any horror director to make this and make it worth your 8-15 dollars, it's Roth.

What do YOU think? What project are you more interested in?

Lets put some rumors to rest...

So, as you all know, I normally talk about some big rumors, and a few times, they don't pan out. However, the following two rumors that I've talked about have been fufilled...

- Brad Pitt has OFFICIALLY JOINED INGLORIOUS BASTARDS!!! Thanks to The Movie Blog for the info....

Today we get word that Brad Pitt has signed on the dotted line and will star in Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards and joining him in early casting are Eli Roth (director of Hostel) and B.J. Novak (”The Office”, Knocked Up).

Pitt will play a Tennessee hillbilly who assembles a team of eight Jewish-American soldiers. Eli Roth will play the role of Sgt. Donnie Donowitz, and Tarantino is locking in the other seven American actors who make up the Bastards team. Novak is expected to play PFC Utivich, described as a soldier of slight build who comes from New York.

That is huge news, and makes me just more excited for this film. QT's been writing this thing for about 20 years now, and the scripts been floating around and getting rave reviews, so expect this one to be huge. Shooting starts later this year, and it will open next years Cannes Film Festival...Oh, and Nastassja Kinski is in talks to join the film...yes, Kinski, the daughter of the brilliant Klaus Kinski...call me excited...

- The second rumor, and we saw this coming, was that Johnny Depp would be staring as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's new adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. Well, it's 100% true. No information has been leaked about the possible shooting schedule, so more news on this as it develops...

In other news...
- Indy 5, yes, Indiana Jones 5, which is allegedly in the works, will NOT be based around Mutt Williams, at least if George Lucas has any control (and I must say, I wish he wouldn't...)
- The feature film adaptation of Flash Gordon is back in production...

That's all I have for now, so come back later for more news and a possible review of either Mummy 3 or X Files: I Want To Believe...

Who's shittier...

Okay, so I was scouring the internet for funny stories/movie news, and this came up...
http://kotaku.com/378137/michael-bay-responds-to-fucking-retard-remark

Three shitty directors tossing daggers at each other...whats better? So, here is the question, who is the shittiest of them all...

A)Michael Bay
B)Uwe Boll
C)Eli Roth

Also, Darren Aronofsky (one of the BEST directors working today), is set to create a psychological thriller called Riverview Towers for the freat tv channel AMC. Now, they have created two really good series, Mad Money and Breaking Bad, so this is looking like it will be great.
