BREAKING: Andrew Garfield Is Spider-man

Finally.

According to Heat Vision, Sony has made up their damn minds about who will be leading the cast of their upcoming Marc Webb directed and James Vanderbilt penned reboot of the Spider-man franchise, and it’s one hell of a choice.

The outlet is reporting that actor Andrew Garfield is set to portray Peter Parker, in what will no doubt be a complete world changer for the relatively unknown actor. Best known for roles in films like the Spike Jonze directed masterpiece of a short, I’m Here, as well as the first film in the fantastic modern noir masterpiece, The Red Riding trilogy, the actor is both the best of the group (which included thespians like Jamie Bell and Logan Lerman), but he’s also one of the oldest, clocking in almost 27 years old, and will be 10 years older than the character which he’s rumored to portray.

This reboot will see Parker reportedly returning to high school, which no matter how baby faced he may be, he definitely doesn’t quite look the part. That said, to me, this is the best they could have done really.

While most of you might not have seen him previously, he is far and away one of his age’s most gifted actors, which truthfully, is something that the role has really been missing, no matter how much of a fan of Maguire I really am. Throw in Marc Webb, and hell, you have one film that I can’t wait to check out.

What do you think?

UPDATE: Now, we have video of the announcement, and apparently Garfield was promoting The Social Network, and literally found out 30 minutes before it was announced. This guy has no idea how his world just changed. Congrats to Garfield, and Sony, you better not mess this one up.

NEWS: The Crow Reboot Still Slitting It's Wrists...

So, for right about a year, that Stephen Norrington, who did the greatest film of all time, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (can you taste the sarcasm, because it's flowing out of me like blood out of the tear ducts of Hawthorne Heights fan) had his grubby hands on the remake/reboot of the cult-emo-goth-classic, The Crow (a film I actually like a bit). Now, while I do like that film quite a bit, and I like it's director Alex Proyas even more, there is little to no interest from me or really anyone I have talked to about this project, in regards to this said project.

Well, that lack of interest is falling on deaf ears. Reports have it that not only has Norrington sent in the newly printed script to Relativity Media, but it has also been allegedly "well received". Here's the news straight from /Film:

The source also says that the movie, yet another adaptation of James O’Barr comic book character, is moving forward to the casting stage. What a relief says an unidentified, easily persuaded Crow loyalist. If anything, the tidbit places the project back on our radar, and makes me ponder who should land the role of the undead, murdered rock musician (discussed below). Norrington has avoided the scorn of the franchise’s followers, some of whom rival Juggalos in 24/7 Halloween silliness, by declaring his script a revamp and not a remake; i.e. The Crow won’t be “Eric Draven,” the one associated with Brandon Lee, the late actor who died on the set in Wilmington, North Carolina from a shootout scene gone awry.

So, now that they are moving into the casting stages, and the news is pretty much just straight forward, and also rather depressing, I would like to hear from you all. Who should play the titular character? It was played by Brandon Lee before his horrible and sad passing while on set. Who would you cast?

WTF?: Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot...WITHOUT Joss Whedon??

It looks like the rumors have been true. Hollywood is working on a big screen reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer sans Buffy creator, Joss Whedon.

Reuters has the scoop:

The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Kuzui and Vertigo are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon.

The parties are meeting with writers and hearing takes, and later will look for a home for the project. The producers do not rule out Whedon's involvement but have not yet reached out to him. Speaking from Tokyo, Fran Kuzui said she is constantly approached not only about sequels but theater, video games and foreign remakes for "Buffy." When Vertigo's Roy Lee contacted them, they were intrigued.

Fran Rubel Kuzui, who directed the original 1992 movie from which the tv series was created, is developing the relaunch with Vertigo Entertainment and while Whedon may have some part in the production, he has none as of yet.

Buffy is easily one of my favorite TV shows, and Angel is a great spin-off, all of which were created by Joss Whedon, who has since done the great Firefly, the hilarious web hit, Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog, and Dollhouse.

However, him not being involved with this project has made me lose all interest in this franchise. If he was creativly behind it, then I would be all for it, but this just seems like a really bad idea. No dice.

NEWS: A Daredevil Reboot?

It appears as though the blind lawyer/superhero Daredevil may not be as dead as many of us thought, and some wanted.

Recently, a blog for the LA based comic book store, Golden Apple Comics, saw "Battlestar Gallactica" star Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck for those who watch the show), walk in and buy all comics that contained the character of Typhoid Mary, with "hopes of getting a part for a marvel movie."

So we got a little visit in our comic shop last week by Katee Sackhoff, also known as Starbuck for her role on BSG. She proceeded to grab all the Typhoid Mary
comics we had and has hopes to get a part for a Marvel movie
….

Now, this can mean a couple of things.

First off, die hard Marvel comics fans will remember that Mary is not only a lover, but a longstanding enemy of our masked handicapped hero. She is a mutant with a multiple personality disorder who comes to control various types of powers in relation to the personality that she is inhabiting at the time.

However, Mary is also a character that has had her schizo hands in many story arcs within the life and times of the merc with a mouth, and upcoming spin-off foder, Deadpool.

I'm not insanely familiar with the Daredevil story and it's subsequent storylines, but this is an interesting idea. She is stunning to look at, and she's one hell of an actress to book. The character sounds interesting, and even though the character WAS in the Daredevil spin-off, Elektra, if they reboot the franchise, I will be more than happy to give it another shot. The idea of Daredevil as a character is intriguing, and if they get the right cast, this could be a great film.

That said, I don't have much of the same hope for the yet to really be discussed Deadpool spin off. It's a fine idea, with a PERFECT casting choice in Ryan Reynolds who portrayed him in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but unless Marvel takes complete control of the film (which has been talked about), it will almost dead on arrival, at least in my eyes.
