NEWS: Transformers 2 Grosses $201 Million For Five Days...

That headline is NOT wrong.

Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen grossed an estimated $201.2 million, beating out former number two, Spider-Man 2, in the category of biggest five day domestic gross of all time. The film fell just a few million short of the record holder, The Dark Knight, which had a 5 day gross of $203.8 million. Worldwide, Transformers: RotF has grossed another $181.6 million, bringing the film's worldwide gross to $363.2 million

As /Film points out, this includes 169 IMAX screens, which contributed $14.4 million to the total.

Apparently the film broke all kinds of IMAX records including the biggest single-day gross ($3.9 million) and the biggest five-day gross ($14.4 million). Of course, with IMAX retrofitting more and more digital IMAX theatres each month, these records don’t mean that much

So, all in all, the world is going to shit. Having Transformers: RotF in between Spiderman 2 and Dark Knight is like having a delicious sandwich from Panera Bread or whatever, only to find out that a donkey shit between the pieces of hipster delivered focaccia bread. Just awful news.

Go see something good!

BOX OFFICE: January 2nd-4th...

Hey guys! I have decided, that since over the past couple of weeks, DVD's and new theatrical releases have been scatterbrain at best, that I am going to break up the Weekend Wrap Up post into the three segments. Sunday's will be the box office top 10, Tuesday's or late Monday nights will be set for DVD releases, and Thursdays will be set for the movies you should all know about heading into the weekend, so you can avoid what you need to. So, without further ado, here is your box office top 10...

1.Marley & Me
2.Bedtime Stories
3.The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
4.Valkyrie
5.Yes Man
6.Seven Pounds
7.The Tale of Despereaux
8.Doubt
9.The Day the Earth Stood Still
10.Slumdog Millionaire

Marley and Me is at number 1, for the SECOND week in a row, which is now tradition for the holiday season. What have you guys seen lately? I haven't been posting much over the past four days, as not to much has been noteworthy, but hopefully this week will be different!

Oh, also, on a personal note, I have an interview at my school's newspaper on either Wednesday or Friday, so I'll keep you all informed on that.

What have you all been watching lately???

NEWS: Delgo, H2, and Sequels Galore...

Hello faithful readers. Today's been a pretty busy day, so here are your headlines...

- As I briefly mentioned in my last news post, it looks like the people over in Terminator land have begun work on Terminator 5, the inevitable sequel to NEXT YEARS Terminator Salvation. No word as to who will direct it, but McG has had his hands in the pre-pre-production, so it looks like he will be holding on as director. Bonus, Christian Bale has three Terminator films in his contract! Here's to hoping Salvation is quality...

- In other sequel news, it looks like rumors were indeed true, as it is now confirmed that Rob Zombie will take back the reigns of the Halloween franchise and will direct the sequel to his much maligned 2007 reboot.

- In MORE sequel news, release dates for Transformers 3 and the Twilight sequel New Moon have been set, with Transformers 3 looking at a July 29th, 2011 release date, and New Moon set to head out on November 20th, of 2009. I'm not to surprised, except for New Moon. They play to get into production roughly around March, so that's a pretty fast turn around. Plus, I thought they would definitely move to a summer date, but they did make 71 Million bones in the middle of Oscar season.

- It looks like people can't get the Dark Knight out of their heads, as ANOTHER casting rumor has been talked about for the inevitable sequel. It looks like E! Online in all of their Ryan Seacrest glory, are reporting, against all others, that Christopher Nolan "will for sure be back" and that he and Warner Brothers are considering Rachel Weisz for the role of Catwoman. While I think it would be brilliant casting (more on that in a second), I know for almost a fact that this rumor, along with all others are bull. I know, through various web sources, that Nolan has yet to even sign up for a third film, let alone started writing a story. Until Warner Brothers and Nolan himself say that he will be back for a third one, all Batman 3 rumors are not true. Sorry to burst everyones preverbial bat shaped bubble, but it's the hard truth.

NOW, when Nolan does sign (becuase I really think he will), I hope he goes this kind of route instead of the Johnny Depp route. The thing with this new Batman franchise, is that all of the cast, at the time of their casting, were not really well known, aside from Morgan Freeman. Bale was just a beloved indie actor, Gary Oldman was and still is very much on that indie fringe, Michael Caine was a well known actor, but not to the younger generation, and even Cillian Murphy was really only known for 28 Days Later. Then you have Heath Ledger and Aaron Eckhart, both well known, but not truly stars yet, and it just wouldn't seem like the right fit for Johnny Depp and Phillip Seymour Hoffman to take over their respective roles. I honestly think they would both be good, but it would be to overwhelming and honestly, I think there are better people out their. However, with Rachel Weisz, you get a brilliant actress, along with the small name, at least in major circles. Honestly, I don't know of a better pick for Catwoman. She's gorgeous, sexy, smart, and an amazing actress to boot. Nolan, if you are reading and I know you do, please, make this the one rumor that ends up being true. Oh, and take my advice, Crsipin Glover for Riddler and Bob Hoskins for Penguin...GOLD...

- Finally, the animated film, Delgo, had the worst opening weekend box office gross in the history of film. It grossed roughly $511,920, and here's the kicker, ON 2,160 SCREENS. That's a per screen average of $237 per screen, or, if tickets are $8 and there are 5 showings a day, two people per showing...The production behind it is really a sad story and shows the difficulties of independent film making, show read more about it here...

BOX OFFICE: Top 10; November 28-30...

Hey guys! Here is your box office top 10, for this, Thanksgiving Weekend '08...

1.Four Christmases
2.Bolt
3.Twilight
4.Quantum Of Solace
5.Australia
6.Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
7.Transporter 3
8.Role Models
9.The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
10.Milk

Wow, Milk AND The Boy in the Striped Pajamas both in the top 10. Transporter 3 was the unexpected bomb this week, as sub par reviews and not the most noteworthy of advertising sank this one into the depths of a mediocre 12.3 Million bucks for the three day, with the five day total reaching just a dismal $18.5. Twilight has reached the $120 million mark, and Four Christmases grossed the highest opening weekend for a Christmas film. Congrats!

Come back later for more news, and the DVD's that you should either Buy, Borrow, or Burn...

BOX OFFICE TOP 10...

Hey guys! This has been a pretty uneventful weekend, and so is the box office top 10...

1. Twilight
2.Quantum Of Solace
3.Bolt
4.Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
5.Role Models
6.Changeling
7.High School Musical 3: Senior Year
8.Zack and Miri Make a Porno
9.The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
10.The Secret Life of Bees

Twilight made the projected $70 Million, while the only real surprise is Bolt BOMBING with only $20 Million for the three day...What did you guys see?

I'm going to try something new this weekend. Instead of writing up a full post, I am going to break them up into the three parts. Tuesday I will do my Buy Borrow and Burn post for DVD's, and come Thursday, I will let you all know what to look out for this weekend. Let me know what you guys think of this, and if you don't like it, then I will be reverting back to the old style.

Go see something good!

Sunday, August 3, 2008

Brief Weekend Wrap Up...

Hey guys, this post is going to be shorter than normal, and you will find out why in a minute...but first, here is the box office top 10...

1.The Dark Knight
2.The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
3.Step Brothers
4.Mamma Mia!
5.Journey to the Center of the Earth
6.Swing Vote
7.Hancock
8.WALL-E
9.The X-Files: I Want to Believe
10.Space Chimps

SPACE CHIMPS!?!?!? SPACE CHIMPS!?!?!?! TDK grossed ANOTHER 44 million bucks to lead this week...Pineapple Express....GOOD LUCK!

Alright, this is why I am going to have this shorter than normal...there is NO DVD worth mentioning...Even the geniuses over at Criterion aren't releasing anything this week!!! That all said, on either Monday or Tuesday, I'll have a top 10 so you all can check out some of those, and I will also recommend some others...

Now, this week is not only a mediocre one for DVD sales, but it also sees the release of some less than hotly anticipated films, well, save for one...first there is Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2...and moving on...the second and final film is Pineapple Express, which for those of you who may not have a TV with you at the rock you've been living under, is about two stoners who witness a murder, and their story of running from the said murderers. Now, the fact that it's a Judd Apatow production gives me pause, but then knowing that David Gordon Green, yes, the George Washington/Snow Angels/Undertow/All The Real Girls, David Gordon Green will be helming this stoner epic gives me relief. Go see this flick! I know I will...

So I said I would have a Mummy 3 review this weekend, but I steered clear of that mess, so you can fully expect a PE review this Friday...also, I feel kind of bad about not having anything up this week, so in the upcoming weeks, with the mass of new releases (Vicky Cristina Barcelona anyone???), and the fact I'll be back at school, you can expect a ton of reviews of films in wide release...In the mean time...

I still want to hear about your choices for character's and the actors/resses playing the character for the inevitable third Batman film...

Go see Brideshead Revisited this Friday...I hear it's a good flick...

Go see something good!!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Hey guys! I'm back, and I've got some stuff to do, so, I'm gonna keep this a little short. Here are your top 10 box office winners for this week...

1.Hellboy II: The Golden Army
2.Hancock
3.Journey to the Center of the Earth
4.WALL-E
5.Wanted
6.Get Smart
7.Meet Dave
8.Kung Fu Panda
9.Kit Kittredge: An American Girl
10.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indy 4 is still in the top 10...Hellboy II made roughly 38 million bucks...I'll be seeing that later this week, so expect a review of that film, sometime later this week...

Here are the note able DVD releases for this Tuesday...

- College Road Trip -
Martin. Lawrence. Comedy. All three of those words are enough to keep any smart people away from this film...
- Step Up 2: The Streets -
I don't get these films, so I say that they are avoidable, at all costs
- Penelope -
Christina Ricci and James McAvoy in a film about a pig nosed girl who needs and is longing for love. Maybe worth a rent, solely because the cast is intriguing...
- Shutter -
ANOTHER horrible American remake of an Asian horror film...skip it at all costs...

~~ PICK OF THE WEEK ~~
The Bank Job
A solid heist film, starring Jason Statham, and based on a "real story". Solid performances, great cinematography, a good soundtrack, and an intriguing story make for a good entry into the heist film genre, especially in a year that hasn't seen many solid ones. Worth a rental at least.
8/10

Oh, Trafic comes out this week. For those of you who don't know about Jaques Tati, please, rent Playtime or Mon Oncle, and then you will know why I am really excited to put this one right at the top of my queue

Alright, so this week sees the release of three films in wide release to theatres across this country. First, Space Chimps, an animated film about monkey astronauts. Second, Mama Mia, a story about a girl...wait, what am I saying. Unless you are either 6 years or younger, or have an over the top obsession with ABBA, and I know, don't we all, then you will be seeing The Dark Knight. I'm not going to say anything, as, if you haven't heard about this film, than you need to ask your landlord to upgrade the rock you've been under. I will be reviewing this this weekend, but it will be a little shorter, as I really want to get into a discussion with those of you who see it this weekend. So, if and when you check it out, leave a comment and lets get into this hotly anticipated film.

So, I just have two more things to say. First, here is what the CEO from Warner Brother's had to say about a certain Wild film from director Spike Jonze.

"We've given him more money and, even more importantly, more time for him to work on the film," Horn said. "We'd like to find a common ground that represents Spike's vision but still offers a film that really delivers for a broad-based audience. We obviously still have a challenge on our hands. But I wouldn't call it a problem, simply a challenge. No one wants to turn this into a bland, sanitized studio movie. This is a very special piece of material and we're just trying to get it right."

What are your thoughts? Is it alright for studios to hold back films if they don't fit their ideas, or should the directors have a little more say in the final cut of the film they spend months working on?

Finally, here are three films that I saw this weekend on HBO, and my brief thoughts and rating for them...

- The Marine -
Over the top, So bad it's funny, campy, are all words that can describe this horribly comedic film starring professional wrestler, John Cena. Worth a rent if you need a laugh. Have a double feature. The Marine, and the Black Dahlia...
3/10
- Ocean's 13 -
Solid heist film, and the second best in the series. Totally worth a rental. Even better on second and in my case third viewings. Casey Affleck is worth it alone.
8/10
- The Simpson's Movie -
Funny film, but watch it during the week on Fox. Worth a rental for show fans, otherwise, skip able...
7/10

Well, that's all for now. Come back later for more news and notes, along with a new top 10!

Go see something good!

Box Office...new releases...

Hey guys...Here are the stats for this weekends box office...

1.Hancock
2.WALL-E
3.Wanted
4.Get Smart
5.Kung Fu Panda
6.The Incredible Hulk
7.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
8.Kit Kittredge: An American Girl
9.Sex and the City
10.You Don't Mess With the Zohan

Wow, Kit Kittredge beats Sex and The City...Hancock pulled in roughly 107 million dollars over the 6 day opening, with 66 million of that coming over the weekend, almost doubling Wall-E's weekend, 33.5 million dollars.

So, looking for something to rent this week, here are your noteable DVD releases for this Tuesday...

Batman: Gotham Knight
- Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten
One of the better docs from last year. Not the greatest documentary, or even the best Clash documentary, but it's solid, and is worth a rent...
- The Ruins
Torture flick...skip it...
- Sleepwalking
Small little film from earlier this year, starring Charlize Theron. Thats really all I know about it, so, I'll be checking this one out, as should you.
- Stop Loss
Not the worst Iraq War film, but one that is skipable. It's really only worth your time for the great performance by Joseph Gordon Levitt.
- Superhero Movie
Really, is this even appealing to any of you? Skip it..

~DVD Pick of The Week~
Batman: Gotham Knight
6 Interlocking stories, 6 acclaimed anime directors, all produced by the people behind Batman Begins and Batman: The Dark Knight. Oh, did I mention they have the voice actor behind Batman: The Animated Series back to reprise his role as the Caped Crusader. If you have been reading the blog, you know that I'm really excited for this, as you all should be. Anime may turn off some, as I know it does to me sometime, but it's Batman, and really, outside of a mediocre Clash doc, you have nothing new, so give it a shot.

Also, this Friday we have three wide releases, the Eddie Murphy vehicle, Meet Dave (avoid), The 3D "epic" Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D (avoid), and the pick of the week, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. I'll be checking out Hellboy this weekend on my trip to Birch Run, and you all should see it too. Guillermo Del Toro is one of the better filmmakers that we have today, so support anything the guy does, even the upcoming Hobbit movie.

Now, thats all I've got for now, but come back later for some more news, notes, and a top ten.

Go see something good!

Box Office...new releases...

Hey peeps, what the hell is going on?! It's good to be back, and I have the pleasure to give you this weeks box office top 10...

1.WALL-E
2.Wanted
3.Get Smart
4.Kung Fu Panda
5.The Incredible Hulk
6.The Love Guru
7.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
8.The Happening
9.Sex and the City
10.You Don't Mess With the Zohan

Wall-E smashes with 63 million bucks...Wanted was no slouch either though as it grossed roughly 51 million dollars, and some of that happened to be my money...you can expect a review of that action packed kick to the collective groin of society tonight or tomorow afternoon...

Here are the upcoming, noteable DVD releases, for this Tuesday, the 1st of July...

- City of Men...It's the sequel to City of God, BUT Fernando Merielles isn't directing, so it may not be good, but I would say that you should all give it a shot. It's gotten good reviews, and you all should check it out...

- Drillbit Taylor...probably Owen Wilson's worst starring role...it's just a really bad movie, avoid at all cost...

- Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns...Eh, I didn't see it, but it ruled the box office and it got solid reviews, so for a comedy, I say give it a shot...

- Vantage Point...DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE. This is a really cheap attempt at a Rashomon remake for a political age, and it really doesn't work. Just read my review for my full thoughts on it...

Mad Men Season 1 also comes out this week AND a great double feature, Shane and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance come out on a special edition DVD, so check those out as well.

DVD OF THE WEEK

~My Blueberry Nights~
This is a film from visionary director, Wang Kar Wai, and is his first English language film, and stars Norah Jones. This film is worth seeing if only for the Cat Power soundtrack. It's gorgeous, the performances are great, the story is compelling and it's the briskest two hours you'll spend. This is easily in my top 10 of this year so far, so take that for whatever it may mean, but all I am saying is GIVE THIS A SHOT.

Again, it's summer, so there won't be a lot out at the theatres this weekend, but we do have a couple. Hancock is the only big release, which I will be seeing, and Kabluey, (Anna Lisa, where are you?) opens up in limited release. So if its around you, go check out both those films.

Alright guys, come back later for my review of Wanted!

Go see something good!!!

Box Office...New Releases...Top 10 Anticipated films for the rest of the year...

Hey guys! I have a lot to talk about today, so lets just get into it with the box office stats from this past weekend...

1.Get Smart
2.Kung Fu Panda
3.The Incredible Hulk
4.The Love Guru
5.The Happening
6.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
7.You Don't Mess With the Zohan
8.Sex and the City
9.Iron Man
10.The Strangers

Get Smart made only 40 million bucks...this was one of the slower weekends of this summer...Love Guru BOMBED with 14 million bucks...thank you all for not seeing it...Kung Fu Panda is still number two...it's a good movie, and so is the Incredible Hulk...

Here are the upcoming, noteable, DVD releases....

~ 10,000 B.C. - Skip it...go see Independence Day...
~ Definitley, Maybe - Saw the trailer for this again the other day, and I must say, I'm kind of interested...rent it with a loved one and you'll have a good ol' time...
~ The Spiderwick Chronicles - Go see Neverending Story...
~ Charlie Bartlett - Rent this, if only for Robert Downey Jr's amazing performance...and Kat Dennings is kind of foxy...Rent Charlie Bartlett, and BUY Rushmore...
~ Persepolis - Please, go see this flick, it's a heartwarming story, and the animation is so fun to watch. Read my review of it, and then go from there...

~DVD PICK OF THE WEEK~
In Bruges

I'm not going to say much, because I want everyone to see this movie. Say you have a blender, and you take Pulp Fiction and Lock Stock, and then lower the quality a little bit, and then you get In Bruges. It's a great movie that I actually just saw this afternoon, and it comes out this tuesday, so check it out. It stars Colin Farrel, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Finnes and comes to you from a great playwright, Martin McDonagh. Give it a shot...

New Theatrical Releases...
This week we have Wall-E and Wanted. Family film vs. balls out action movie. However, I am not sure what I will have for you this weekend in terms of a review. Wall-E looks to be the better film, and one of the better ones this entire year, but I may go out to see Wanted, just because early reviews of it have been amazing. Doesn't look like it will be good, but it may be a better review for when I come back from my vacation this weekend. So, you can expect a review of either Wall-E or Wanted on Sunday...go see both of them...

Okay, so I just did my top 10 films so far this year, and here is my top 10 most anticipated films coming out from July 1st, to the end of the year...

10. The Brother's Bloom
9. Milk
8. The Changeling
7. The Dark Knight/Gotham Knight
6. The Spirit
5. Tropic Thunder
4. Blindness
3. W
2. Burn After Reading
1. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

That's all for now...come back tomorow for more news and a top 10!

Go see something good!!

Weekend Box Office...new releases, a game, and a poster...

Hey guys! Today is a big day, so I'm going to just get into it...here are the top ten films from this weeks box office...

1.The Incredible Hulk
2.Kung Fu Panda
3.The Happening
4.You Don't Mess With the Zohan
5.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
6.Sex and the City
7.Iron Man
8.The Strangers
9.The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
10.What Happens in Vegas

The Incredible Hulk grossed roughly 53.5 million bucks...a little lower than the early tracking numbers, and much less than the tracking earlier this week, which called for close to Iron Man numbers. Speaking of Mr. Stark, Iron Man grossed another 5 million big ones, bringing it's total, domestically, to right around 290 million dollars. Nice job RDJ. This is actually not the worst list in the world. Hulk is getting solid reviews, Panda is great, Indy 4 is good, Iron Man is really solid, and The Strangers is a solid horror flick. Also, with some of the recent DVD releases, and smaller indie flicks that are out, this is a great summer for flicks...

Here are the big upcoming DVD releases for this tuesday, June 17th...

- Fools Gold...Matthew McConaughey in a rom...why delve into this...skip it...
- Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins...Martin Lawerence comedy...in other words, skip it...

~~PICK OF THE WEEK~~
BE KIND REWIND
Not the greatest movie ever made, but a really heartfelt comedy starring Jack Black and Mos Def, coming to us from visionary director Michel Gondry. I personally would say get The Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind before this flick, but if you just want a funny movie with a real heart of gold, than give this a shot. You won't be dissapointed. Go read my review of it in the note, Be Kind, Rewind...

Alright, so we only have two wide releases for this upcoming Friday, both of which are not high on my anticipation list. Get Smart stars the *cough* overrated *cough* Steve Carrell, and the gorgeous Anne Hathaway in an adaptation of the cult 60's television show of the same name. It looks decent, but in a summer with other solid films, it's just not high on my list. The other film is The Love Guru, aka Austin Powers 4, and I'm not going to really start on this film, but I just will not see it, and neither should you...

Finally, I have two things to tell you guys about. First off, there is a new poster, or really a character banner for the upcoming film, The Spirit, and this time, it's got the seductive, yet lackluster actress, Scarlett Johannsson.

I think Scarjo is gorgeous, and in certain films (Ghost World, The Prestige, her little part in The Man Who Wasn't There) I think she can be a really solid actress. I hope she does well in this film, because that poster is amazing.

The other thing is another game for you all to come join me on. It's called the Hollywood Stock Exchange, and all you have to do is log on, sign up, and pick your movies. You can pick films, actors, directors, and other stocks for awards and the like. It's just like the normal stock exchange, but instead of floundering tech companies and real money, you get to pick floundering box office bombs (Speed Racer anyone?) with fake moolah. Also, if you get enough money, you can purchase some HSX schwag to wear or use. Here's the site, and come check it out!

http://www.hsx.com/

Alright, thats all I've got right now...some come back later for some more info!!

Go see something good!!!

Weekend Box Office...new releases...

Here is the final talley for this weekend's box office...

1.Kung Fu Panda
2.You Don't Mess With the Zohan
3.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
4.Sex and the City
5.The Strangers
6.Iron Man
7.The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
8.What Happens in Vegas
9.Baby Mama
10.Made of Honor

The Panda made bank...60 million bucks even...Zohan made 40 million dollars, and both films smashed their expected totals. Interesting note, Indy 4 and Sex and The City switched spots this week, with Sex falling a whopping 63 percent . Looks like the film won't have legs for the long hall we call summer. Or maybe it was just that it may not have been a good movie. Ladies, whats going on?

Here are the upcoming releases on DVD for this tuesday, the 10th.

- The Bucket List...a buddy comedy for the early bird special set. Not the greatest of reviews, but good message. Skippable, although I love the cast...

- Jumper...A horrible action adventure movie starring the robot that we know as Hayden Christensen. Skip it at all costs.

- The Other Bolyen Girl...a solid costume drama starring Eric Bana and Scarlett Johannson. It's got a horrible title, but is a pretty decent movie. Rentable, but that's about it.

- Witless Protection...why does Larry The Cable Guy have a carrer?? Someone answer me that please.

~~PICK OF THE WEEK~~

- FUNNY GAMES -
I just did a post on this flick, so I'm going to keep this short. This is one of the most intense films I have seen in a long time. It will polarize people, and is easily in the top 5 films I have had a chance to see this year. Please, rent or buy this, and then tell me what you think!

Here are your upcoming releases for this friday, June 13th...

-The Happening...Horror film from M. Night Shamalyan. I don't know a ton about this movie, and most people don't so, I'm interested in it, so check it out!

~~PICK OF THE WEEK~~

-THE INCREDIBLE HULK-
This is the only other movie coming out, so there's this or the film festival. However, the reviews for this film are coming out, and seem to be really solid, and they are clocking it at huge numbers...Iron Man numbers. So, just go out, and say, have a double feature with The Happening.

Alright guys, thats about it for right now...come back later for more news and notes!

Go see something good!!

Sunday, June 1, 2008

1.Sex and the City
2.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
3.The Strangers
4.Iron Man
5.The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
6.What Happens in Vegas
7.Baby Mama
8.Speed Racer
9.Made of Honor
10.Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Sex obviously sells...55.7 Million dollars worth...Iron Man is STILL number 4...Go check out Speed Racer...your mind will explode in a skittles induced combustion...

Here are the upcoming DVD releases for this Tuesday, June 3rd....

-The Eye...Jessica Alba...now heres a question to you all...is she the worst actress in hollywood...this critic says yes...
-Flawless...Demi Moore film...skip it...
-Meet The Spartans...worst. film. ever.
-Semi Pro...See this film for ONE reason...and his name is Will Arnet...fucking brilliant...
-Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show...A cool little documentary on a comedy tour where Vince Vaughn and some of his buddies went across the country on a stand up comedy tour. I like Vaughn, and Justin Long is in it, so I say give it a shot...

~DVD PICK OF THE WEEK~
Control
-This film is a biopic about the lead singer of the great band, Joy Division, Ian Curtis. The film is shot in GORGEOUS black and white by famed photographer Anton Corbjin, and is probably the second best film about Joy Division (24 Hour Party People is better), and this was easily one of my top 15 films from last year. Sam Reily is amazing as Curtis, and this film is amazing and a sure fire hit for any fan of music...check this one out...

Here are the major wide theatrical releases for this week...

-You Don't Mess With The Zohan...Adam Sandler in a Judd Apatow produced and written by comedy...skip it...
-Kung Fu Panda...Scadoosh...the end of that new trailer is the only reason I want to see this movie...skip it unless you like animated movies

~Theatrical Pick of The Week~
Mongol
No one will see this movie. And thats a damn shame. It is a story about the life and times of Genghis Khan, and it really looks amazing. It is a sweeping epic from Sergi Bodrov. Just check out the trailer, and you'll see why I can't wait for this to get a DVD Release

...look for it to possibly come to the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts in GR later this year...

Alright guys...that's all I've got for right now...this looks like it may be a slow week, so I will try to get a couple of DVD reviews on here, and then this weekends big review is up in the air....

What would you guys like me to review?

Zohan
Kung Fu Panda
Something else?

Happy Birthday Morgan Freeman! oh, and Hedi Klum too!!

Go see something good!!

Box Office...new releases...trailer...

Here are your box office numbers for this, memorial day weekend....

1.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
2.The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
3.Iron Man
4.What Happens in Vegas
5.Speed Racer
6.Made of Honor
7.Baby Mama
8.Forgetting Sarah Marshall
9.Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
10.The Visitor

Indy 4...what can I say...101 million dollars this weekend, 126 million for it's opening five days...was anything else expected? The final three films made under a million dollars...Please, if the Visitor is around your area, go check it out...

Here are the noteable DVD releases for this Tuesday, the 27th.

-Rambo...skip it...
-Cassandra's Dream...The most recent Woody Allen picture, and, as was said during my review here, is totally worth your time. It's a crime drama involving two brothers and their attempt to help their troubled uncle. It's a solid film, and one that should be rented by you this tuesday...
-Grace is Gone...newest film from John Cusack, and tells the story of a father who lost his wife in the Iraq war, and must tell his two young children...This film is bound to be a heart wrencher, so tred lightly...but I recomend it to everyone. I have heard nothing but great things, and I will be renting this right away.

~PICK OF THE WEEK~

DARFUR NOW
This is a documentary about the genocide that has destroyed the Western region of Sudan. It comes to us from first time feature Documentarian Ted Braun and is narrated by Don Cheadle and George Clooney. While this is a blind recomendation, this is a subject that must be talked about, and it comes from two of the most outspoken people in Hollywood, so it has to be good. Also, it's only a FIVE DOLLAR purchase, so give it a shot. It will be a welcome addition to any documentary fans DVD Collection...

Now, as usual with summer, there are only a couple of new releases coming to your local theatre, but there are a few interesting ones, so here they are...

-Sex and The City...really? Skipping...
-The Foot Fist Way...Interesting little comedy. It's about a lonely Tae Kwon-Do teacher who goes on a journey with a freind and two of his students to find his hero. It stars Danny R. McBride, the explosion guy from Hot Rod, and it looks like it could be really solid. It's opening in limited release, so it probably won't be seen by many, but if it comes around, check it out...just like this next film...
-Savage Grace...It stars Julian Moore, and is a story about the Barbara Daly Baekland murder case...Here is the wikipedia article about it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Daly_Baekeland

Not only was the case a shocker, but this trailer is also really stunning...This film would have easily been my pick of the week, but it's only opening in NY and LA, so we are all shit out of luck...

~PICK OF THE WEEK~

-THE STRANGERS-
Really, what is to be said here. It's POSTER scared the shit out of me. Two people go to a cabin, *cough* Funny Games *cough*, and get kidnapped by murderers. It looks scary, but hopefully it stays away from basic hollywood conventions...I'll be there...

Alright, so thats about it...

Go see something good!!!!!

Box Office...

Here is this weeks new box office top 10...

1.The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
2.Iron Man
3.What Happens in Vegas
4.Speed Racer
5.Baby Mama
6.Made of Honor
7.Forgetting Sarah Marshall
8.Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
9.The Forbidden Kingdom
10.The Visitor

Chronicles came in with roughly 56.5 million this weekend...well below estimates...Iron Man still gained 31 Million...Speed Racer continues to be a bomb...it's amazing to see a small film like The Visitor up there...

Well, really, this is going to be a short post as there are not many DVD releases, and this week sees ONE new theatrical release, just a little film called INDIANA JONES 4!!!! The biggest DVD release is National Treasure 2, but if you like surfing and/or Russel Crowe, check out Bra Boys. It's about Australian surfers, and I hear it's pretty solid. Actually, check that, save your money and go get your tickets for Indy 4. That's what I'm doing. More on that film in the coming days.

Other than that, there really is nothing big to discuss...so in the meantime...

Go see something good!

Box Office...

Here's the final tally for this weekends box office...

1.Iron Man
2.Speed Racer
3.What Happens in Vegas
4.Made of Honor
5.Baby Mama
6.Forgetting Sarah Marshall
7.Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
8.The Forbidden Kingdom
9.Nim's Island
10.Redbelt

Redbelt! Mamet in the top 10! Good work guys! Iron Man made another 50 million dollars, with Speedy only getting a loely 20 mil...can you say fiasco?

Now here are the notable DVD releases for this Tuesday, the 13th...

Wow...actually, there really is nothing to note. We do have three mediocre movies with The Great Debaters (worth seeing for Whitaker alone), Untraceable (a ridiculous torture film), and Youth Without Youth (a really interesting failure. Worth a rental). Outside of that we have Mad Money. Just go back and read my review of that movie to truly understand where I come out on that. What a piece of drek...stay away. If I had to recomend one, go check out Youth Without Youth. It's a really interesting film, if flawed. Give that a shot.

It's summertime, so we have one new major release this week, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. I never read the book, so I really don't understand anything behind it (never saw the first film either), all I do know is that if you like yourself some heavy handed religious alagories, than check it out. I know I'll be checking out Redbelt. It's a small little film staring Chiwetel Ejiefor, and comes from director/writer/playwrite David Mamet. If any of you have seen a Mamet film, than you can understand why this could be interesting. It's a Mixed Martial Arts film, and looks really interesting. Go give this flick a shot.

There's no news to report, so thats all for tonight. Come back tomorow for some news and notes. Go see something good!!!

Weekend Box Office..New Releases...

Here is your weekend box office numbers for the weekend of Friday the 2nd of May...

1.Iron Man
2.Made of Honor
3.Baby Mama
4.Forgetting Sarah Marshall
5.Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
6.The Forbidden Kingdom
7.Nim's Island
8.Prom Night
9.21
10.88 Minutes

Iron Man made roughly 104.3 Million dollars this weekend...second biggest opening EVER. And you know what, this time we were all right. The movie is fucking phenominal. I would review it, but it's like Superman for me...it's something that I geek out to... I can review it, but I think it would be more fun if you all posted your thoughts about it, as most of you saw the thing. But I will say a few things. Robert Downey Jr. is the best comedic actor working today. Hell, he's top ten actors overall for me, and he was born to play this role. Favreu knows how to use special effects, and I was really emotionally into the entire film. The first and final acts lagged a wee bit, but nothing to big. You all saw this, so I will just stop there. What did you all think of it???

Here are the notable dvd releases for this tuesday...

-First Sunday...moving on...
-Over Here Dead Body...continuing on...
-P.S. I Love You...really guys?..
-Teeth...I am not going to say a word about this...just check out the IMDB page on it...what a premise!

PICK OF THE WEEK!!!

~I'M NOT THERE~
Todd Haynes' amazing biopic-esque film on Bob Dylan featuring six actors including Cate Blanchett and the late Heath Ledger. This was probably my fifth favorite film from last year, and this is one that you should definitley check out. I went in blind to it, or at least for the most part. I put my Dylan knowledge at like a five out of ten, so this is coming from a sheer cinematic standpoint. The film was stunning, and features four really great performances. The only hinderence to it were the Richard Gere and Christian Bale performances. While fine performances, they just didn't really work that well.

Now, the new releases for theatres are really slim, so here are just a couple of things about them. We have Redbelt, a Mixed Martial Arts film from David Mamet, What Happens in Vegas, a comedy that looks like pure drek, but then we have the sure to be so-bad-it's-good-classic, Speed Racer. So, make your own choice. I'll be at Speed Racer in IMAX, so expect a review of that on Saturday. Oh, and a full Iron Man review WILL be on here tomorow. I keep postponing it, so this is the last time, I promise. A review WILL be up tomorow afternoon.

In the meantime, go see something good!!!!!!!

Weekend Box Office...

Hey guys! Here is the final weekend box office tally

1.Baby Mama
2.Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
3.The Forbidden Kingdom
4.Forgetting Sarah Marshall
5.Nim's Island
6.Prom Night
7.21
8.88 Minutes
9.Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who
11.Street Kings

Baby Mama pulls in 18.3 Million…over Harold and Kumar…really interesting…21 is still on there…more on that in a wee bit.

Here are the major releases that will be hitting your local multiplex this Friday, May 2nd.

- Made of Honor….Patrick Dempsey romantic comedy…moving on

~PICK OF THE WEEK!!!~

-Iron Man-
Now, if you have no idea what this is about, then get from under your rock, sit in front of the TV and check out any tv channel during a commercial break. You WILL see this movie. EVERYONE will see this film. So I won’t say much, but you can expect a review of it this coming Wednesday.

Also, Son Of Rambow, Redbelt, and Mister Lonely all get released this Friday in limited theatres, so if you hear that these films are around you, check them out for sure. I will be posting each of those films respective trailers later.

Finally, here are the notable DVD releases that will be released this Tuesday…

-Golden Compass…Special Effects film from American Pie director Paul Weiss…rentable if you have kids…

-27 Dresses…You know what, rent this movie. If you guys have a significant other, you will enjoy this movie, because you know what, your woman will like it, probably a lot, so she’ll be happy, and happy girlfreinds are what we all strive for! But no, this movie is a solid, studio romantic comedy. Not great, not horrible, just middle ground work.

-How She Move…moving on

~DVD PICK OF THE WEEK~

-Diving Bell And The Butterfly-
Now, all I know is that this film won a ton of awards for best foreign film, and people are saying it’s life changing. Also, it’s from Basquiat director Julian Schnabel, so please check this out. It’s a major miss from last year for me, so I am really excited to check this one out.

Okay, so I have had a long week. Finals, moving out, and moving back in. So, if you couldn’t guess, productivity for this blog is taking a hit. I will be scontinuing to post here, as much as I can. I am working from 6 to 3 in the afternoon, so I won’t be posting until the late afternoon. I will continue to bring you all the same stuff, just either in longer posts, or through a scheduled thing. Like maybe specific topics for each day. I have seen 21, so you can expect a review of that tomorrow, and an Iron Man review, albeit a really tiny, egg shell walking version on Wednesday. Other than that, I have no idea. So, go see something good!!!!
