PHOTO: THE A-Team...

Can you say contrast?

About two weeks ago we got our first kind of legit look at the full lead group of the upcoming Joe Carnahan directed film version of The A-Team. Now, this isn't really a film I'm looking to forward too, outside of the great cast that they have assembled. Well, now we have our first true look at the full group, in all their contrast heavy glory. The biggest surprise here is that Rampage Jackson doesn't look like garbage, as he did in a leaked photo from a week or two ago. From how this photo looks, the cast looks perfect, particularly Liam Neeson as Col. John "Hannibal" Smith, who will hopefully have a chance to chew up as much of the scenery as he does his cigars. I love the photo, and it also at least puts this film on my radar. What do YOU think?

This Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, Pride and Glory) directed and Michael Brandt / Derek Haas (Wanted) written adaptation of the 1980's TV show is about a group of ex-Army Special Forces who work as soldiers while being on the run from the military for a crime they didn't commit. Starring as the elite A-Team are: Sharlto Copley as Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock, Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck, Liam Neeson as Col. John "Hannibal" Smith, and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as Sgt. Bosco "B.A." Baracus. 20th Century Fox has already set a June 11th, 2010 release date next year.

PHOTO: Most Of The Expendables...

This is the epitome of badass. While I don't think this film is going to be a good film, no doubt the mofo is going to have some awesome action, especially with this cast. Enjoy!

PHOTO: Is Pixar Making A Film About A Boy and His Dino?

So, as the genius sleuths they are, /Film has yet uncovered a special little piece of news via Upcoming Pixar. Here's the scoop:

Could Pixar be working on a film about a boy and his dinosaur? If you take a look behind Pixar sculptor Greg Dykstra, you will notice concept drawings and photos on his office wall showing a dinosaur and a boy. Could this be a design for an upcoming Pixar feature or short film?

Upcoming Pixar
reader Bryko614, who noticed the concept art above while watching B-Roll footage from the making of Pete Docter’s Up, took that question to Pixar story supervisor Ronnie del Carmen. del Carmen responded on Twitter by saying that he does know what they are from “But not telling. Nothing to do with anything Toy Story, tell you that.”

So what could the above screen shot hint at? Sculpting comes near the end of the animation process, so it's something that isn't to far off the dock. People have speculated that it could simply be character designs for Russell and his bird Kevin, but these sculptures were not in the Art of Up book, and as /Film also points out, they are far to off from the final versions, to make it seem likely. Newt isn't likely, as it's simply a film about the two remaining newts on the planet, and nothing in Toy Story 3 could be big enough to feature a live dinosaur and his boy owner. My guess is that it's just an upcoming short, but hopefully there is an interesting little film behind this photo. What do YOU think?

PHOTO: Inception Begins Shooting...

This news is a bit straightforward, so all there really is to know is that Christopher Nolan's new film, Inception, has begun filming, and this photograph is proof (Taking Back Sunday reference anyone? No, whatever, moving on). It features (from left to right) Leonardo DiCaprio, Nolan, and Ken Watanabe.

FIRST LOOK: Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett...

Directed by music video director Floria Sigismondi, The Runaways tells the story of the famous all girl punk group, that launched the careers of artists including Joan Jett and Willa Ford. Starring in the said film is Twilight star Kristen Stewart, and while the film has not started shooting a shot yet, the people over at Jezebel have picked up a photo of the star getting prepped for what is a perfect role for the indie starlett. Starring along side Dakota Fanning, the film will follow the band through their rise, and the ultimate conclusion, their rough break up. Check out the photo, and tell me what you think! I personally find it awesome, and think that this may be an instance of sheer perfect casting...

FIRST LOOK: James Franco As Allen Ginsburg In HOWL...

One of the coolest and most interesting films that I think we will be seeing a lot more of in the coming future, leading up to its release, is Howl. Very little has been released about this film, most of which I will discuss below, but the first real photo from the Gus Van Sandt produced film has been released. The film stars James Franco as Allen Ginsberg, the famous Beat Poet who faced an obscenity trial in 1957 for the publication of his poem, Howl.

Not only does this photo sell me on the look of the film and how it will most certainly sell the time period, but the cast, and particularly the director, has me over the moon about this piece. Coming to us from Times Of Harvey Milk (Oscar winning documentary) Rob Epstein, who also wrote the screenplay, the film stars James Franco, Jeff Daniels, Mary-Louise Parker (of Weeds fame), and David Straithairn. The photo is our first look at Franco and his costar, Aaron Tveit who plays Peter Orlovsky, long time friend and fellow poet. It all sounds great to me, and hopefully, we will see more of this film in the near future. Check out the photo below!

FIRST LOOK: Mickey Rourke in Iron Man 2...

This photo has been out since Monday I believe, but I have decided to wait to post this, just to see what all comes out of it via the interwebs, or if other photos are posted, because this has not hit well with fans of the character of Blacklash, and fans of Iron Man and the first film. However, it kind of works for me.

The film hasn't really had many things released, but what we do know is that Rourke's character Ivan Vanko will not only become the character of Blacklash/Whiplash, but it will also incorporate points from the character of Crimson Dynamo, i.e. why he has the powersuit in the photo. So he will have a powersuit AND some badass whips. Sounds pretty cool to me. Also, Rourke looks surly as hell, and his look will hopefully add a bit of grunginess to the very prestine and clean cut world of Iron Man. The photo is VERY basic and arguably a silly one at that, but it does kind of work for me. Anyways, check it out below!!

Here's Iron Man 2's premise (via WikiPedia)

In an interview with USA Today, Jon Favreau revealed that the sequel is set 6 months after the events of Iron Man, and he also stated that Stark's revealing of his identity is taking its toll on him. Favreau revealed their version of Iron Man's comic book nemesis the Mandarin "allows us to incorporate the whole pantheon of villains", while S.H.I.E.L.D. will continue to have a major role.[1]

During development, Favreau said the film would explore Stark's alcoholism, but it would not be "the Leaving Las Vegas version".[1] Downey said, while promoting the first film, that Stark would probably develop a drinking problem as he is unable to cope with his age and Pepper getting a boyfriend.[2] Before filming began, Downey revealed that while the film was not an adaptation of Demon in a Bottle, it was more about the "interim space" between the origin and the Demon story arc.

NEWS: Cameron Talks Avatar...At Least The Videogame...

So today was the official start of E3, and alongside the hoopla over the horribly timed Project Natal for XBox360, the first trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic, and the announcement that Metal Gear Solid will be making it's way to the afforementioned 360, there was one huge piece of news, that also swept over to the film world.

During Ubisoft's showcase, director James Cameron made an appearance to primarily talk Avatar, the videogame, but also drop some hints as to what we can expect from the film itself. I had a chance to check out the showcase live during G4's broadcast, but the geniuses over at /Film actually wrote down his key points:

- Ubisoft acquired a graphic design company named Hybride, which is creating over 100 of the CGI shots for the film.

- Cameron said that the film takes place in the 22nd century, on a large Earth-like moon called Pandora, with rain forests, 1000-foot tall trees, and many different types of critters. He described the Na’vi as 10 feet tall and striped like tigers.

- Weta provided Ubisoft with all the assets , models, and animations used in the movie. Cameron says that the game will have its own creatures, weapons and settings, some of which was designed by Ubisoft, and some of which were created specifically for the game only by Weta. Cameron says that he even incorporated assets that Ubisoft created for the game into the movie. because he liked the designs so much.

- The game tells a story that parallels the film, so you could play the whole game without spoiling the movie.

- The player can choose to be either human of Na’vi, and the who the bad guy is depends on which side you choose to play as.

- Cameron said that most video games based on movie properties kinda suck, and that he hopes revolutionize the model of movie to video game adaptations.

- “This film is way beyond anything I’ve ever done before, which is why its taken four years to date, and we have seven months to go,” said Cameron. “The live-action portion was filmed with cameras that took us 9 years to develop.”

- Ubisoft has been working on the game for over two and a half years.

- It will be the first major stereoscopic video game title developed in 3D from the ground up.

- Ubisoft also announced that they will be working with Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson on a video game version of the upcoming Tintin movies.

- No footage was shown during the press conference, but a demo will be available to press at E3.

- Cameron said that playing the new demo was the first time he’s ever been scared while playing a video game.

/Film reader Person Mcdude adds:

- He said that the air on Pandora isnt breathable by humans, so they genetically engineered a hybrid human/naavi, hence the name “avatar”.
the hybrids are able to control robots by “jacking” their nervous system into the robots. while jacked in, the individual is in a comatose state, but their consciousness is able to move the robot as if it were an extension of his/her body.

- One of the overriding themes of the movie is learning to view things from another perspective. Cameron hinted at a showdown between the mechanized, technologically reliant humans vs. the natural, more primal, almost tribal like Na’avi. The main character, a human (worthington?) becomes increasingly sympathetic towards the Na’vi and must choose sides at the end. he sounded very excited and said this was a huge, amazing fight scene.

Awesome, awesome and awesome. I only wish that they would have shown some footage of not only the videogame, but the film itself. Sort of like a movie based videogame tv spot. Something. Instead, we get to see the look and feel of the film, or what we all think could be the look of the film, via these three screenshots (thanks to Ubi.com)...

PHOTO: First Look At "The Rum Diary"...

Looks like the weekends can bring us some news. In this nights 11th hour, Pop Sugar has graced us all with the first photo from the set of The Rum Diary, starring the subject of the photo, Johnny Depp. Enjoy!

Here's the synopsis for The Rum Diary!

Based on Hunter S. Thompson's novel of the same name, The Rum Diary follows Depp as Paul Kemp, a divorced alcoholic and struggling novelist who decides to kick around in San Juan until his ship comes in, working as a journalist for a newspaper that's on its last legs, drinking gallons of rum and experimenting with LSD. With his new friend Bob Sala by his side, Kemp becomes entangled in a corrupt hotel development scheme with a slick PR consultant named Sanderson. Amber Heard, Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins, and Michael Rispoli also star in this. Stay tuned for more updates on The Rum Diary.

NEWS: Scott Pilgrim VS. The World Update...

There is a little film that is in the works, that has been buzzing around the web like the indie graphic novel bug that it is. The film is called Scott Pilgrim VS. The World, and is based on the Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series.

Thanks to Wikipedia for the synopsis on the series, which I have yet to check out...

The series is about 24-year-old Canadian Scott Pilgrim, a slacker, hero, wannabe-rockstar, who is living in Toronto and playing bass in the band "Sex Bob-Omb." He falls in love with American delivery girl Ramona V. Flowers, but must defeat her seven "evil ex-boyfriends[1]" in order to date her.

Now, that sounds like a really fun story right? To me it does at least. However, what makes the film adaptation all the more interesting, is the man behind it, Shaun of The Dead/Hot Fuzz helmer, Edgar Wright.

Recently, he has been releasing a bunch of cast photos, probably at least one a day, on his photoblog. Most recently, there was a cryptic photo of a man standing behind a set of blinds, with a paper adorned with a question mark. Now, there has been a ton of hype that the mystery man is Jason Schwartzman, and if that's the case, then lock me in my seat, but the rest of the cast is pretty solid also.

Scott Pilgrim - Michael Cera
Ramona Flowers - Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Wallace Wells - Keiran Culkin
Satya Babha – Matthew Patel
Chris Evans - Lucas Lee
Brandon Routh – Todd Ingram
Mae Whitman – Roxy Richter
Mark Webber – Stephen Stills
Johnny Simmons – Young Neil
Brie Larson – Envy Adams
Anna Kendrick – Stacey Pilgrim
Ellen Wong - Knives Chau
Aubrey Plaza - Julie Powers
Alison Pill - Kim Pine

I'm just saying, be on the look out for more informatino on this film as it comes...

PHOTO: Heath Ledger in Parnassus

I don't normally write a whole note about a single photo, but I think this one deserves it. The photo is of Heath Ledger in what was his final film, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus...check it out!

Here is the plot synopsis from the good guys over at /film...

he Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a fantastical morality tale, set in the present day. It tells the story of Dr Parnassus and his extraordinary ‘Imaginarium’, a traveling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Dr Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. Long ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr Nick, in which he won immortality. Many centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his first-born reached its 16th birthday he or she would become the property of Mr Nick.

Valentina is now rapidly approaching this ‘coming of age’ milestone and Dr Parnassus is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. Mr Nick arrives to collect but, always keen to make a bet, renegotiates the wager. Now the winner of Valentina will be determined by whoever seduces the first five souls. Enlisting a series of wild, comical and compelling characters in his journey, Dr Parnassus promises his daughter’s hand in marriage to the man that helps him win. In this captivating, explosive and wonderfully imaginative race against time, Dr Parnassus must fight to save his daughter in a never-ending landscape of surreal obstacles - and undo the mistakes of his past once and for all.
