VIDEO: Oren Moverman Talks The Messenger...

One film that has gotten huge buzz, that I haven't seen yet, is Oren Moverman's new film, The Messenger, which stars Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster. Below is a special video with Moverman, taken by MakingOf (via Incontention), in which he discusses his film. Find the film and synopsis below!

A US soldier struggles with an ethical dilemma when he becomes involved with a widow of a fallen officer.

The Messenger is directed by first-time filmmaker Oren Moverman, who previously wrote the screenplays for I'm Not There and Married Life. The screenplay was actually co-written by Moverman and producer Alessandro Camon. This first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and was eventually bought by Oscilloscope. The Messenger will open in limited theaters starting on November 13th this fall.

VIDEO: South Park Avatar Spoof...

This video is taken from the newest episode of South Park, entitled Dancing With Smurfs. During the episode, as /Film (who had the heads up on this video, as I don't readily watch South Park) puts it, Cartman becomes a Glenn Beck /Bill O’reilly like character, and at one point recalls a tale about spending time with the Smurfs. He became “one of them,” falling in love with Smurfette, and leading a revolt against the humans (led by Wendy) who have come to pillage and ruin smurfland.

I'm not the biggest fan of the show, but it IS a slow news day after all, so enjoy!

VIDEO: Grace Director Paul Solet Brings You The Jack Chop...

It's no shock to people that I'm a big horror guy.

One of the films that was released this year that has revitalized my faith in modern American horror, along with the likes of Drag Me To Hell, Orphan and Trick 'R Treat is the shocking hit, Grace. The dead-baby-who-is-really-alive tale is directed by Paul Solet, who premiered his film at Sundance, to much buzz. Now, he, along with Hatchet director Adam Green, have created this hilarious and bloody short film, an infomercial for the Jack Chop, a play on the Slap Chop. Enjoy!

Thanks to /Film for the heads up.

If you haven't seen Grace, don't read anything about it, but take the time that you would to run to IMDb, and instead run to your local video rental place, and pick up this really stellar piece of horror cinema.

VIDEO: First 8-Minutes of ABC's V...

ABC has released the first 8 minutes of their upcoming remake of the cult classic '80's television series, V, which premieres on Tuesday, November 3rd at 8:00pm ET/PT. Here's the show's synopsis:

Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or V’s) promote a message of peace. Through their generous offer to share advanced technology, the V’s build a following that may actually hide a more malevolent agenda, one that twists a very deep component of human nature — devotion. While the world quickly becomes fascinated with the V’s and their link to wonders just beyond the reach of human understanding, FBI Counter Terrorist Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) discovers a secret hidden beneath the skin of every V - a secret that may threaten the lives of everyone close to her. Yet for her teenage son, Tyler (Logan Huffman), the V’s are his ticket to something big and hopeful-a new chance for mankind to unite in common goals. To Chad Decker (Scott Wolf), a career-hungry news anchor, his exclusive interview with Anna (Morena Baccarin), the leader of the V’s, is crucial to his dominating the airwaves. Also unsure about the Visitors is Father Jack (Joel Gretsch), a priest questioning his faith in the wake of the Visitors’ arrival. Seeking answers outside the church, Father Jack discovers there are other dissidents who believe the Visitors are not who they say they are, including Ryan Nichols (Morris Chestnut), who is faced with his own life-altering decision when the V’s show up. Never has there been more at stake — it truly is the dawning of a new day. “V” also stars Lourdes Benedicto as Ryan’s fianc’e, Valerie, and Laura Vandervoort as Lisa, an alluring Visitor who sets her sights on Tyler.

I normally hate these little previews, but for this show, I'm beyond excited. I'm not making judgements yet, so neither should you. Just enjoy the awesomeness. You are very welcome.

MEMORABLE CINEMA: Nightcrawler Fight Scene From X2...

Sure, this is basically the Scenes We Love feature from Cinematical, but really, this week has been beyond slow for film news, so cut me some slack.

I think this may be some sort of weekly feature or something at least that I will do or have a writer of mine (yes, I'm looking for writers, deets coming) do every so often.

Ever so often, a film, or a particular scene from a film will come out of the theatre with an audience, and will be the thing that people are talking about. This is the place where I will attempt to shine some light on those intensely memorable scenes.

When I think of an action scene, the first particular scene that I will remember when probed is the opening from X2. Bryan Singer's true masterpiece, in my humble opinion, X2 is arguably the greatest comic book film ever made, if not at least in the top 3 (it's my personal favorite), and it's partially due to the tone that was set up by this amazing action scene. Personally, this is the be all end all of action scenes. Coherent, completely action packed, and brilliantly shot, there may not be a more perfectly staged action film that I have seen, and I hadn't felt that sense of "wow" since Jurassic Park. This is the comic book film that all other comic book films are compared to, and this is the action scene that I compare all others to, at least all other action films since X2's release.

VIDEO: First Five Minues of The Princess and The Frog...

Walt Disney Pictures has released the opening five minutes of their upcoming return to hand-drawn animation, The Princess and The Frog, online for your enjoyment. There isn't a ton of plot here, as it is just the opening five minutes, but what we do get introduced to aside from the character we will be following for the span of the film, Tiana, is the particular style that the film will have. The video does feature a bit of unfinished animation, but for the most part, we see that it will feature great animation, that while being a return to form, adds to classics from years past with hints of CG assistance. However, not all of this is to fluid, and can be quite polarizing at moments. It will definitely be an interesting film to see how people respond to it. Here's to hoping the finished product will work.

Enjoy!

Here's the synopsis (via /Film, the source of this news)

The Walt Disney Studios continues its fairy tale legacy in animation by taking moviegoers on an all-new “once upon a time” musical adventure. Set in the legendary birthplace of jazz – New Orleans, The Princess and the Frog will introduce the newest Disney princess, Tiana, a young African-American girl living amid the charming elegance and grandeur of the fabled French Quarter. From the heart of Louisiana’s mystical bayous and the banks of the mighty Mississippi comes an unforgettable tale of love, enchantment and discovery with a soulful singing crocodile, voodoo spells and Cajun charm at every turn.

Featuring the voices of Anika Noni Rose (as Princess Tiana), Oprah Winfrey, Keith David, Jim Cummings, John Goodman, Jenifer Lewis, Bruno Campos, Michael-Leon Wooley, Peter Bartlett and Terrence Howard. Directed by and based on an original story written by Disney’s acclaimed filmmaking duo John Musker & Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules). Scored and music written by Oscar®-winning songwriter/composer and New Orleans native Randy Newman (Toy Story, Monsters, Inc.).
