POSTER: Ponyo...

Up may just have some stiff competition.

With early reviews coming out for Up, saying that while the film is great, it's not Pixar's best film, one can look at other animation films to see if there is a chance of a steal (it's a steal because basically, Best Animated Film is Pixar's award to lose). In Contention has two films joining it in the threesome for that award, Monsters vs. Aliens and Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo. After seeing this poster and the Japanese trailer, this film film is going to be one to watch out for. Not to mention, Miyazaki just happens to be the most influential animation director of our time. Check both the poster and Japanese trailer below!

An animated adventure centered on a 5-year-old boy and his relationship with a goldfish princess who longs to become human. You can check out an old Japanese teaser trailer right here if interested.

Ponyo on the Cliff is both written and directed by master animator Hayao Miyazaki, of Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle previously, and was animated at the legendary Studio Ghibli. The Toho Company just released the film in theaters in Japan this weekend. Disney is bringing Ponyo on the Cliff, now known as just Ponyo, to theaters everywhere on August 14th.

What do you think?

Go see something good!
