NEWS: Baldwin and Martin to Host Oscars...
Well, it appears as though I may have spoke too soon.
About a week ago, I posted some news, reporting that Neil Patrick Harris would be the host of the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony. However, the sources must have been wrong, as it appears he will not be hosting, but instead, the dynamic duo of Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.
Coming hot off the heels of Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Stiller declining hosting duties, Martin and Baldwin have officially been named hosts of the 2010 ceremony. Rumors had been circulating that Martin may be hosting either alone or with the help of Tina Fey (as was proposed by anyone who saw the two tear up the stage last year), but it looks like he will be teamed with Alec Baldwin in what should be one of the most interesting and in my own eyes, hotly anticipated award ceremony that I can remember.
Not only do I think Steve Martin is a comedic genius, and always has been, but Baldwin has hosted more episodes of SNL than 99% of celebrities, with increasing results. Both of these guys have insanely strong comedic chops, and it should make for one hell of a fantastic show when it airs in March of next year.
Here’s the news straight from the horses mouth, via their press release:
“We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars,” said Shankman and Mechanic. “Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event.”
“I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin,” said Martin.
“I don’t play the banjo but I’m thrilled to be hosting the Oscars – it’s the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Baldwin.
Couldn’t have said it better.
The duo star in “It’s Complicated”, alongside Meryl Streep that will hit theatres later this year
Go see something good!
